As much as we enjoy getting together to share ideas, techniques, patterns, and camaraderie, we also enjoy sharing our skills by sewing in response to the needs of others in our community. Our members are so very generous with their time and talents! Here are a few of our chapter-wide projects:
This past holiday season we made over 200 holiday, seasonal, or just plain pretty place mats to brighten the day for a meals-on-wheels recipient.
We are so happy to make chemo scarves for our sisters who are fighting the "fight of their lives". Member Fran Guttman developed the pattern we use. If you'd like to contribute to this important project, you can download the pattern and instructions.
Hawthorne Center provides in-patient psychiatric services to children from 4 to 18. The pillowcases we make are used as birthday and/or Christmas gifts to the residents or just a special item they can call their own. They especially enjoy seasonal fabric prints, licensed character prints, or any cheerful, brightly colored fabric.
Here are several sites with excellent instructions for making these pillowcases.
We want to thank our local Walmart for their generous donation that helps up purchase fabric for our pillowcases.
Angela Hospice provides compassionate, loving care for those facing serious illnesses. To support their services, we make modesty covers for catheters and small comfort pillows in various sizes.
Here are the basic directions for the cover:
